Driptorch Digest

Current Issue: April 2026

An image of the April 2026 edition of "Driptorch Digest," a newsletter for the southern prescribed fire community.

The top of the page features the newsletter's title in white text on a bold red banner, alongside a circular inset photo of two driptorches in a grassy field. Below the banner are logos for NC State Extension and SERPPAS (Southeast Regional Partnership for Planning and Sustainability).

The main article is titled "Nationwide Review of CPBM Programs Released," featuring a cover image of a report by the Forest Stewards Guild titled "Assessment of Certified Prescribed Burn Manager Programs."

On the right side, a sidebar titled "Tippin' Torch: Tips for the Season" provides a wildfire potential outlook from the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). It notes above-normal fire potential for parts of the Southern Area through May 2026, specifically highlighting the southeast Atlantic coast, Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas.

About

Starting in January 2016, The SERPPAS Prescribed Fire Work Group began publishing the Driptorch Digest newsletter. The Driptorch Digest covers news stories, partner projects, new resources, upcoming events, and other content relevant to the Southeastern prescribed fire community.

Although the content is tailored to those participating in the Work Group, much of it may be of interest to others working in land management and collaborative restoration, particularly those utilizing prescribed fire within fire-adapted systems in the Southeast U.S. Many of the efforts showcased in the newsletter also help to achieve goals of the Cohesive National Wildland Fire Management Strategy.
