Super Scholars Event a Success

By guest blogger and out of state student, Bobby Oglesby

Last weekend, the Paper Science and Engineering Program hosted seven out of state Super Scholars and parents. There were five states represented at this event; two candidate from Virginia, two from Tennessee, one from South Carolina, one from Minnesota, and one from Maryland. Our program has obtained very widespread popularity among surrounding states and rightfully so! The students came this weekend to attend individual interviews with an alumni/industry panel, individual interviews with a current student panel, take tours if they had not already done so, make paper, and also attend Service Raleigh on Saturday morning cleaning up a cemetery after a harsh storm! They did all this in order to compete for a very coveted series of scholarships being offered by the NC State Pulp and Paper Foundation. It was a very long two days for these students, but we hope that they truly enjoyed it! The Paper Science and Engineering program would like to thank the Super Scholars, their parents, alumni, industry, current students, and the faculty that made this weekend a success! Without all of the time that many people donated this weekend, none of this would be possible!
