Class of 2018!

By Guest Blogger Bobby Oglesby, PSE Sophomore

“There was so much buzz about PSE that I just had to come take a look!”

This was the response of a parent and prospective student during the University Open House last month. This event resulted in record attendance due to the two information sessions that were hosted in Biltmore Hall to talk about Paper Science and Engineering.

Throughout that day, over 75 people toured Biltmore Hall, Pulp and Paper Labs and the Wolfpack Baby Paper machine by faculty members and many current students.  Meanwhile, Dr. Med Byrd and students attracted more prospective students on Centennial Campus.

It has been a very exciting recruiting season for the Paper Science and Engineering program at NC State, and it is improving every year. We have had a 50% increase of applications for PSE from at this timelast year, and over 50 on-campus students from the First Year College program asking for and receiving more information about our program.

DSC_0040 (Small)The increase in this program’s popularity and interest comes from the continuous hard work put in by our amazing recruiter, Jennifer Piercy. She has traveled to four different states visiting four mills, all run by different companies, in less than three months! She traveled to International Paper in Riegelwood, NC; RockTenn in Hopewell, VA; Domtar in Bennettsville, SC; and PCA in Counce, TN. At each of these mills she made a presentation to high school students interested in the program at NC State. She presented to over 70 students total, which is 33% more than last year!

For the prospective students reading this, don’t forget!

Our success originates directly from the hard work and dedication put in by all of the faculty, students, companies, and many alumnae that support the PSE program! We would like to thank all of the companies and individuals who support the PSE program at NC State in any way! If it were not for you, this program would not thrive the way that it does.

If you are not already a supporter and you would like give back to the program, there are multiple ways to do just that.

Thank you again for your support and we anxiously await the Class of 2018!!!

GO WOLFPACK!
