Ashley Massey – Most Congenial Senior

By guest blogger Katie PayneDSC_0122

At the 2013 PSE Senior Banquet, Ashley Massey, a Paper Super Scholar from Edgewood, Maryland, won the Most Congenial Senior Award. This award is meant to honor someone who is kind and brings cheer to the senior class. This year, the students in paper science voted for Ashley to receive this award because of her constant positive attitude and smile. Ashley is involved in many activities outside of paper science that she has been able to dedicate time to while doing well in school and keeping a happy, positive attitude.

When asked about receiving the award, Ashley Massey said “I am very humbled that my peers in the Pulp & Paper Science program nominated me for the Congenial Senior award for 2013.  The class of 2013 is a very special and diverse group of students from different areas, different backgrounds and different cultures.  Through this diversity, we make NC State and the Pulp and Paper Science program the best in the country.  It has been a privilege and an honor to serve with these special students, faculty and staff in trying to obtain the ultimate goal: graduation.   It has been a blessing to have such a great support network of friends that turned into a family.  I thank you all very much!”

Massey Ashley w bellAshley will be going to Baton Rouge, LA in August to work for ExxonMobil as a process engineer. It has taken Ashley, and everyone, a lot of hard work, dedication, and determination to complete assignments, tests, and reports and to exceed many obstacles to make it to this point. Ashley is appreciative all of all of her classmates who have worked together to help each other along the way.

Some of Ashley’s favorite times at NC State were when she was participating in the NCSU marching band and pep band. She also thoroughly enjoyed the experiences that she had while studying and working in Finland and Germany through the TransAtlantic Paper Science Program. Ashley will never forget all of the jokes and laughter shared in the TAPPI lounge (especially on the days when the students were greeted by the housekeepers at 4AM).

Ashley is very deserving of the Most Congenial Senior Award. Her name will be engraved on a plaque that will remain in the TAPPI lounge for future student to see.Massey Ashley
